Open Window School – Director of Human Resources

Open Window School is currently accepting applications for a Director of Human Resources. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and plays a supportive role to the senior leadership team.

Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the position

  • Degree or professional certification related to human resources
  • At least three years of human resources experience
  • At least one year of payroll processing experience
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office products, HRIS, payroll

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience with HR/Payroll at a non-profit organization or school

Benefits and Payroll Administration:

  • Successfully manage and coordinate benefit programs (Health, Dental, Section 125, 403(b), STD, LTD, Life/AD&D, COBRA) for employees, including all employee communications and open enrollment
  • Research and implement new supplemental benefit programs as needed
  • Work with Chief Financial Officer and broker to provide a benefits package that meets school budgetary goals and total compensation objectives
  • Prepare/edit Summary Plan Descriptions as needed for plan changes and legal compliance
  • Manage annual retirement plan audit and attend Fiduciary Oversight Committee meetings
  • Complete annual compensation and benefit surveys
  • Ensure benefit plans and payroll comply with applicable county, state, and federal laws and regulations (HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, Washington leave laws, wage and hour laws, etc.)
  • Complete payroll preparation (i.e. verify timecards accurately reflect hours worked, salary and benefit election updates have been entered, adding new hires and removing terminated staff from payroll)
  • Process monthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now
  • Prepare after-payroll reports for Controller and reconciliation with tax filings submitted by ADP
  • Complete quarterly and annual filings and notices (quarterly L&I, assist with 5500, 1095-C and 1094-C, Notice of Creditable Coverage, Non-Discrimination Testing, etc.)
  • Maintain employee payroll and benefits files


Employee Relations:

  • Maintain employee handbook for the School and recommend changes to Administrative Team
  • Develop/ edit/ update job descriptions and postings to ensure correct FLSA classification, accurately reflects the duties of the position and attract a diverse candidate pool
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws/regulations (ADA, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, Title VII, etc.)
  • Counsel employees regarding disciplinary problems and provide mediation when necessary
  • Manage employee separation process for both voluntary/involuntary terminations.
  • Manage recruitment lifecycle, including participating in interviews, off-site recruiting at job fairs, and conducting new hire orientation
  • Assist in development and maintenance of salary/compensation scales
  • Work with Director of Diversity & Inclusion on initiatives and programs that intersect HR and diversity (recruiting, interviewing, personnel issues, training) and actively participate in Diversity Counsel
  • Provide formal training and as-needed coaching for leadership/supervisors on various HR topics, including interviewing skills, performance reviews, and employee coaching
  • Coordinate all-staff training during in-service and as needed throughout the year on various topics, including sexual harassment prevention, bloodborne pathogens training, CPR/1st Aid, etc.
  • Verify employees complete all required training and background checks as needed
  • Manage administration and responses to worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance claims
  • Maintain personnel records

Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Additional hours may be periodically necessary to complete all job duties/responsibilities

Start Date: July 1, 2019 (sooner, if possible)


Compensation and Benefits:
This is an exempt position that is not eligible for overtime compensation. Compensation is determined based on skills, knowledge, and experience of candidate in coordination with NAIS salary survey data.

This position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package which includes Open Window paid medical, dental, and vision insurance. In addition, a generous amount of paid leave is provided annually; including: 11 holidays; 12 sick/personal days; and, 6 weeks of vacation. Vacation is to be taken during the school’s regular breaks (spring break, winter break, mid-winter break, and summer).
