Recreation Coordinator
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Parks and Recreation
Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week — includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned
Compensation: Determined by the Davison Township Hourly Employee Union Agreement; includes wages and full benefits
Review: Annually, or upon request
Job Summary
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing recreation programs, athletic leagues, and community events for Davison Township Parks and Recreation. This position also manages facility rentals, marketing, and community partnerships, while assisting the Director with budgeting, reporting, and administrative support.
The Recreation Coordinator supervises seasonal staff, volunteers, and contractors to ensure that all programs are engaging, safe, and meet the needs of the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program & Event Management
Plan, organize, and oversee recreation programs, athletic leagues, and special events.
Evaluate programs to ensure quality, participation, and community impact.
Recommend fees and charges for programs and rentals.
Coordinate field trips, after-school programs, and community tours.
Assist with departmental programs and events as needed.
Facility Rentals
Manage all facility and pavilion rentals, including scheduling, contracts, payments, and security deposits.
Communicate with renters, coordinate facility access, and schedule tours for potential renters.
Ensure all rental documentation and financial records are accurate and properly maintained.
Marketing & Communications
Develop and distribute marketing materials including flyers, press releases, banners, and digital content.
Prepare and publish the bi-annual Parks & Recreation brochure.
Maintain and update social media, website, and mobile platforms.
Respond to public inquiries and social media messages.
Staffing & Supervision
Recruit, interview, and recommend hiring of seasonal staff and contractors.
Train, schedule, and supervise seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers.
Support training for staff and community partners on program procedures and environmental education.
Administration & Finance
Assist with budget preparation, tracking, and financial reporting.
Handle invoices, deposits, refunds, and petty cash per township policy.
Prepare bid proposals and purchase summaries.
Maintain accurate program, sponsorship, and partnership records.
Community Partnerships
Develop partnerships with schools, organizations, and local businesses.
Seek grants, sponsorships, donations, and collaborative opportunities.
Represent the department at community functions and public events.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist in developing and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Township Board.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, or related field.
Two or more years of recreation programming experience; supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and adapt to changing priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital marketing tools.
Knowledge of recreation safety standards and program development.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and the public.
CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work occurs both in an office and outdoor settings.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, and lifting moderate weight.
Must be able to communicate effectively and work in various weather conditions.
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Responsible for proper care and safe use of Township property and equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting Pay: $21.41 per hour
Includes personal and vacation time, medical, dental, vision, and MERS retirement benefits per the Davison Township Hourly Employee Union Contract.
Requires 40 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekends for programs and events.
Relocation assistance is not provided.
