Nature of Work
The position serves as the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) for the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome which resides in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome was founded in 2008 and is one of the only academic centers whose mission is fully devoted to Down syndrome research. The Institute uses state-of-the-art, transformational research platforms to decipher the unique biology and disease spectrum of people with Down syndrome. The Institutes’ work spans the entire translational pipeline, from basic science to clinical research, clinical trials, and the advancement of medical care.
The DFA is responsible for the overall financial management and administrative functions of the Institute. The DFA works closely with the Institute Executive Director and leadership team to fulfill the goal and objectives while ensuring that the Institute operates in accordance with University policies and procedures and School of Medicine (SOM) rules. The DFA is responsible for managing the day-to-day and long-term operations of the work unit. This position is responsible for the administration of financial, personnel, research, and administrative operations of the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome.
This DFA will be serving the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome, which is the largest academic home for Down syndrome research. The DFA reports directly to the Executive Director of the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome and has a dotted reporting relationship to the School of Medicine Senior Associate Dean of Administration and Finance

Examples of Work Performed
- Oversee and direct all program fiscal, human resources, administrative and operational activities.
- Provide financial oversight, controls, procedures and practices for the development, implementation and management of operational budgets, grants & contracts, endowments, and philanthropic gifts consistent with internal and external compliance and in support of the Crnic Institute’s mission.
- Interpret financial statements; resolve questions/programs and interpret new policies/procedures; assist with and monitor reconciliation of accounts/statements.
- Provide high-level insight of policies in the approval of expenses, travel reimbursements and other procurement needs as required.
- Manage the monthly and fiscal year-end close processes, produce monthly budget performance reports, and analyze financial performance to meet the annual and long-term goals of Crnic.
- Coordinates Crnic purchasing activities including delegation of purchasing responsibilities and adherence to purchasing policy, acquisition of capital equipment items and major capital building/renovation, and negotiation of leases. Works with Procurement Service Center to provide solutions that are cost effective and competitive for all contracts and pricing negotiations.
- Partner, collaborate, and provide direction to internal and external stakeholders and partners on financial management, administration, and operations.
- Engage in development activities related to finding new or expanded funding sources and opportunities.
- Represent Crnic to visitors, clients, media and the public and serve as a Public Relations liaison for constituents.
- Command a robust and comprehensive understanding of research grant application process, compliance, budget development, maintenance, and finances, and able to effectively lead research managers, coordinators, and staff responsible for the research functions and duties of the Institute.
- Oversees human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Ensure compliance with compensation models, practices, regulations, and policies.
- Oversee daily institute activities, including but not limited to: purchasing and accounting, personnel oversight, facilities and space management, health and safety issues, access approval, and campus security
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organizations goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Monitors and ensures the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position has been established at $105,000 to $140,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, healthcare administration, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
- Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level management experience that included fiscal management responsibilities within a complex health care, academic or biomedical research setting
- Three (3) years of research administration experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, business administration, finance, healthcare administration, or a directly related field
- Eight (8) years of experience working in a health care or academic medical setting
- Six (6) years of experience in research proposal development and financial grant management with varying federal funders.
