Drawing on over 100 years of history as the premier social meeting place, The Hotel Kansas City provides a truly unique setting for memorable events, as well as inventive dining and nightlife.
In addition to the hotel's 144 guest rooms are the Town Company, a Farm-to-Table restaurant; a live music cellar cocktail bar; and a lobby lounge and bar that will bring locals and guests together for impromptu mingling. For the event minded guests, there will be 20,000 feet of meeting space that includes impressive historic ballrooms and a 3,000 square foot rooftop event patio.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Food and Beverage, the Assistant Director of F&B supports the hotel's mission to create exceptional guest and colleague experiences by overseeing and managing the daily functions of all Food & Beverage (F&B) outlets within the hotel. These include Town Company restaurant, Nighthawk live performance venue, The Classic lobby bar, and The Lobby Market café. This position represents a senior-leader presence on nights and weekends and is key to addressing guest relations in a manner aligned with Hyatt values.
This position's direct reports include one F&B Manager, and two Assistant F&B Managers covering three outlets.
This position works primarily Wednesday through Sunday with flexibility for variable hours based on business and event needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Support senior leadership as an active participant and contributor to the Associate Leadership Committee (ALC) team
• Liaison between F&B Director and outlets and other departments
• Working with the F&B Director, help plan the short and long-term goals, objectives, budgeting and forecasting of outlet operations
• Implement and maintain food & beverage sales/marketing programs
• Develop and supervise team of high-performing outlet leaders responsible for managing and coaching colleagues through all facets of employee administrative processes including but not limited to scheduling, payroll, training, recruitment, learning & development
• Manage and lead process improvements around payroll, finance, reports, forecasts, inventory, and budget for outlet operations
• Coordinate outlet operations with other hotel departments to ensure efficient guest service
• Resolve customer complaints timely and aligned with Hyatt values to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and quality
• Provides timely and helpful information and feedback across the team via various communication channels including but not limited to departmental meetings and huddles, regular check ins, on the spot coaching, etc.
• Implement procedures to increase guest and employee satisfaction
• Exercise quality control for both food and beverage
• Maintain Hyatt standards of service and ensure their implementation
• Perform daily walk-through to ensure full compliance with Department of Health regulations and Hyatt Corporate standards
• Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 4 years' progressive F&B management experience required, preferably in the hotel or comparably industry - Hyatt experience a plus
• Experience in the implementation of new food and beverage concepts
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage and review the work of others
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Demonstrated success leading teams through growth, change, complexity while maintaining positive and respectful interpersonal relationships, listening and communication skills
• Superior guest and customer service skills and able to model, motivate, and instill that same vigor in their teams
• Proven ability to work through and/or resolve conflict quickly, while sustaining collaborative and respectful working relationships with all stakeholders
- Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner, while managing competing priorities using available resources and support
- Comfort and proficiency with effective use of computers and software systems including but not limited to data entry, word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office), collaboration and virtual meeting tools (MS Teams, Slack), and restaurant reservation system (Tock)
• Familiarity with employee compliance (FMLA, OSHA, FLSA), a plus
- Ability to lift, push, pull 50 lbs., and work in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Hotel/Hospitality degree, preferred
