Job SummaryThe Dining Supervisor for Campus Concessions is responsible for overseeing daily operations across multiple high-traffic event venues on campus. These include the Gene Polisseni Center, Gordon Field House, Judson Stadium, the Dave and Nancy Munson Amphitheater, and all food truck-related events hosted at RIT.
This role ensures exceptional food quality and customer service by coordinating closely with student staff, fellow supervisors and managers, and external vendors. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence, supporting event logistics, and fostering a positive guest experience at all concession locations.
Job Responsibilities
This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, scheduled across 12 months per year. While the schedule is created two weeks in advance, hours may vary based on daily business needs and campus event demands.
The supervisor must be available for weekday, evening, and weekend shifts as assigned. Days off are scheduled around campus events, with a strong effort to provide two consecutive days off per week, whenever possible.
Flexibility is essential, especially during break weeks, summer sessions, and intersession periods, when scheduling may differ from the academic year. Additionally, large institute events-such as Commencement and the Imagine RIT Festival-may require additional hours and occasional overtime.
Major Responsibilities
- Supervise, direct, train, schedule, hire and work with full time and student employees. Give clear and concise directions. Coordinate production needs and staffing as appropriate.
- Opens and/or closes food service unit and ensures it is operationally ready in accordance with established procedures; maintains proper security of unit.
- Provide excellent service in a friendly, sincere and courteous manner.
- Place necessary orders for inventory and products.
- Coordinate restocking across all venues as well as the storeroom.
- Participates in planning related to budget, menus, pricing and operational procedures and objectives.
- Assist manager in planning special functions and themed meals.
- Monitor cashiers for proper cash handling and correct reading of cash register tapes.
- Research and maintain creative merchandise displays and signage for unit.
- Performs duties of subordinate food service employees as necessary in order to keep food service unit adequately staffed and running.
- Monitors food service equipment to ensure it is in proper working order; arranges for repair of equipment as necessary.
- Handles customer complaints in regard to food service provided and follows through with necessary action.
- Complete management responsibility when manager is absent from unit, including necessary service calls.
- Assist with general office duties, including inventory, payroll, and record keeping.
- Finalize cash sales at end of applicable events and re-balance cash drawers.
- Administer weekly audits of cash safe and follow proper cash-handling procedures when counting petty cash and drawers.
- Attend meetings and seminars as required or requested by unit manager/general manager.
- Ensure compliance for all individuals with all dining services expectations, and compliance related items such as ServSafe, cut glove procedures, etc.
- Enforce all New York State and Monroe County Health codes as they relate to health, sanitation and safety.
- Ensure that quality control, portioning and customer service standards are met and maintained.
- Collaborate with other campus service departments (Facilities Management, Tech Crew, Production Services, etc.) to ensure that clients' needs are met.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of catering or restaurant experience
- 1-3 years in a supervisory position
- Ability to work in a team orientated environment and work independently as needed
- Ability to multi task and work well in a high pressure environment
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without a VISA sponsorship.

RIT Dining supports all meal plans both on campus and at select off campus locations. We are looking for a high energy team member that enjoys working in a busy environment serving customers. The successful candidate will need to be able to work with our student work force which may include of deaf / hard of hearing, and internationals students. Hours would change for breaks, intersession and summer semester. This position may support serving from 1500 to over 3000 customers (faculty, staff and students) in any one location on a daily basis.
