Starting Salary: $57 ,852.00/Year

Under direction, the class functions as a working supervisor, supervising and performing work as an Emergency Medical Technician, providing basic medical care and services. The EMS Supervisor oversees operations, performs all operational duties of an EMT, engages in proactive outreach, and related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Supervises and directly participates in the work of Emergency Medical Technicians functioning as members of the Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement (CARE) team providing prehospital emergency medical care including patient assessments, treatments, and referrals or transport on a daily basis
• Participates in the development of work standards and the performance evaluation of staff
• Schedules and assigns staff in conjunction with senior management
• Responds in collaboration with other team members, to 911 calls and other crisis lifelines with an identified behavioral health component and provide crisis assessment, crisis intervention, de-escalation, safety planning, referrals, and linkage to care services for residents
• Assesses vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, respirations, pulse oximetry, etc.)
• Provides basic prehospital medical care to patients by stabilizing emergencies (e.g., respiratory, cardiac, or trauma incidents, etc.)
• Transports patients to medical facilities, including alternate destinations and Emergency Departments, for further stabilization
• Ensures quality of care and that delivery of services remains compassionate, trauma-informed, and attentive to the particular needs and values of each patient
• Ensures accurate and timely reporting and documentation in compliance with department, Region 11, and City of Chicago standards
• Ensures complaints, accidents, and incident investigations are documented and reported
• Monitors equipment and materials needed
• Operates and maintains City vehicles for emergency response and day-to-day operations
• Provides input to management regarding fleet maintenance, service, equipment and supplies, documentation and record keeping operations
• Reviews and evaluates EMTs performance, conducting after-action reviews
• Monitors overall wellbeing of EMTs
• Stays abreast of current events and trends which may lead to an increase in potentially hazardous calls that could possibly affect first responders
• Tracks program utilization and medical care trends to make informed recommendations that best meet the needs of the community
• Coordinates continuing medical education seminars for clinical staff and identifies additional training opportunities
• Participates in team/department meetings, in-services, and case coordination sessions

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Certification, plus three (3) years of EMS work experience, of which one (1) year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR
Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree or higher, plus one (1) year of EMS work experience, of which one (1) year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Selection Criteria
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected
