Position Summary Brief Description of PSU/School/DeptThe Metro Region Innovation Hub is part of Business Oregon's statewide network of Regional Innovation Hubs, enhancing the coordination of services and resources to maximize support for innovation-based entrepreneurs. As the Metro Region Innovation Hub, we serve Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington County.Position SummaryThe Innovation Hub Operations & Event Support Assistant plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day activities of the Portland Metro Region Innovation Hub and its community of founders, entrepreneurs, researchers, and regional partners. This position provides hands-on event support, building operations assistance, and general logistical coordination to ensure the Hub is a welcoming, functional, and well-prepared space for innovation programming, including accelerators, workshops, community meetings, and partner events.
This is a part-time intermittent position (up to 0.49 FTE) with variable scheduling based on event and building needs. This position is for a limited duration through 6/30/26; the position may be renewed, contingent upon grant funding.Minimum Qualifications from Classification Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience.
Note:
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift and move furniture or equipment weighing up to ~3040 lbs.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work variable hours that align with event schedules.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience engaging with startups, founders, or innovation ecosystems—ideally within Portland State University, the Portland Metro Region Innovation Hub, or the PSU Science & Education Center.
- Familiarity with university-based innovation, entrepreneurship programs, or community partnerdriven events.
- Hands-on experience with light technical equipment such as a vinyl cutter, large-format or specialty printers, or similar maker-space/production tools.
- Creates an environment that acknowledges, encourages and celebrates differences.
- Functions and communicates effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds.
- Seeks opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.
- Adheres to all PSU policies including the policies on Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment and the Professional Standards of Conduct.
This intermittent position is not eligible for benefits.
