Qualifications
The Outdoor Adventure Supervisor must have an interest in and knowledge about the natural world, including the Texas Hill Country, or a curiosity to learn about our natural habitat. This person must have strong interpersonal , customer service, group management, critical thinking and problem solving skills. They also need to have the ability to be flexible in regards to scheduling and daily duties. Personal interest in outdoor adventure pursuits, including extensive hiking experience, water activity experience, climbing experience and a knowledge of rope systems.
- In partnership with Integrative Wellbeing leadership team, lead the Outdoor Adventure team and serve a liaison on behalf of and to the Outdoor Adventure team
- In partnership with Integrative Wellbeing leadership team and OA guide team, maintain inventory and department purchasing requests
- In partnership with Integrative Wellbeing leadership team support the colleague experience for OA guides including but not limited to: scheduling and schedule changes, time off requests, subs, mentorship, accountability to assigned tasks
- In partnership with Integrative Wellbeing leadership team support the growth, development and satisfaction with the colleague experience
- Ensure follow through and completion of daily, weekly, monthly and annual OA related tasks through effective delegation and checks for completion
- Participate in interviews and demos
- Onboard and train new colleagues
- Serve as primary OA trainer
- Develop schedule to continually assess classes and OA guides to ensure they are meeting Miraval standards
- Serve as Course Manager and oversee all safety related responsibilities including but not limited to course inspections, gear inspections, safety of program spaces and compliance of practices with industry standards
- Ensure spaces and equipment are clean and ready for next use at the end of every day
- Ability to sub classes as needed including flexibility in schedule to do so
- Partner with Director to promote and grow programs
- Partner with Assistant Director and Director to maximize and adjust monthly OA schedule
- Facilitate and maintain collaborative interdepartmental relationships
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements

• Excellent presentation and teaching skills
• Climbing ability and comfortable working at heights of 30-50ft to include traversing cables
• Technical proficiency with ropes, helmets, harnesses, hardware and several belay techniques and willingness to be trained on high ropes and challenge course elements
• Ability to perform, or learn to perform, and facilitate all activities related to outdoor adventure
• Ability to repeatedly lift and carry outdoor adventure equipment including stand up paddle boards, kayaks, climbing gear
• Maintain equipment and related maintenance records and logs
• Hike 3-4 mile/hour pace, miles ranging from 2-14 miles traveled
• Interest in mindfulness, wellbeing and mind-body-soul connection
• Enthusiastic about delivering experiences in all weather conditions
• Decision making within the best interest of the department and Miraval
• Proficient at Microsoft Office particularly Outlook
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions
• Must have valid Driver's License
• Perform other duties as assigned by department or resort leadership
Education and/or Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in facilitation and/or guiding outdoor adventure programs preferred
• 1 - 2+ years guiding experience hiking preferred
• 1 - 5+ years of experience in facilitation of High and Low Ropes Elements preferred
• First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain within 30 days of start date
• Trained or willing to be trained at facilitating stand up paddleboard and kayaking
• Knowledge of Miraval ethos is a plus
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
• Lifeguard certification, Water Front Lifeguard preferred
• ACCT Facilitator Level I, Level II preferred
• First Aid certification, Wilderness First Aid preferred
• ACCT Course Manager Certification
LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret retail product labeling. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.

REASONING ABILITY
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must be able to exercise mature control over group programs and influence groups and individuals to accomplish particular objectives without interfering unnecessarily.
• Must be sensitive to the personalities, moods, and abilities of individuals and groups and be able to function in a supportive role while guiding them to reach their full potentials.
• Make decisions in the best interest of the guests, their safety (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually) and must be made within the guidelines of department standard operating procedures and Miraval policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Outdoor Adventure Supervisor to successfully perform this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
o The Outdoor Adventure Supervisor must be able to carry and climb ladders of 10-12ft and transition to climb poles upwards of 50ft and be comfortable traversing cables of 35-50ft in height and length. Must be able to walk, stand, and belay for extended periods and do so on average 4-6 hours/day several days per week.
o Must be able to hike for extended periods, maintaining a 3 to 4 mile hour pace, and do so on average 6-12 miles/day, several days per week.
o While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The colleague frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The colleague is occasionally required to sit; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The colleague must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
