Recreation Supervisor – Recreation Programs

General Summary:
Under the general direction of the Recreation General Manager, this position works on a team of three Recreation Supervisors with an expectation that these positions will collaborate and work in unison to deliver exceptional services. The Recreation Supervisors cross train with each other and are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive recreation program. This position’s area of focus is sports, rentals and general interest programming. This includes youth and adult sports, ballfield and sports rentals, sports facilities, concessions, youth and adult general interests, field trips, camps and special events.
Responsibilities include Rec Trac administration, recreation facility and guest service oversite, developing and implementing contracts, development and implementation of policies and procedures, and responsibility for program area budgets.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with a team of Recreation Coordinators to determine and prioritize recreation community needs and desired programs. Evaluate and make recommendations for improvement and future development: implement changes. Develop and follow a recreation program plan that focuses on growth and program excellence.
- Supervise a team and support and guide recreation professionals in program areas that include youth and adult sports, field/court/pavilion rentals, concessions, special interests, community cultural events, youth activities, field trips and camps.
- Develop solid internal professional relationships with all other departments within the district that include Marketing, Administration, Building and Park Maintenance, Human Resources, and Finance.
- Develop solid external professional relationships with residents, volunteers, partners, business owners, and vendors.
- Assist other Recreation Supervisors with programs and operations that include fitness, building operations, field preparation, and gymnastics.
- Manage assigned areas of facilities, parks, and equipment to ensure proper operation for safety and cleanliness, and coordinate cleaning of the facility with staff and contractual service providers.
- Effectively recruit, train, support, and develop staff. Develop workplans and hold regular performance meetings to measure set goals.
- Actively support, model, and encourage Recreation Team values of Culture, Collaboration and community Impact while upholding district values of Community, Integrity, Excellence, Service, Safety, and Teamwork.
- Prepare and monitor budgets, manage revenues and expenditures and prepare financial and Board reports; prepare purchase orders and invoice payment requests; prepare short and long-range revenue/expenditure projections and monitor revenue streams; calculate program fees to meet cost-recovery goals. Lead or assist with capital improvement planning and project management.
- Administer and use survey and statistical data to Identify opportunities to improve serve and increase efficiency in recreation programming to implement necessary changes.
- Actively promote recreation programs with the Hyland Hills brand within the local community by working with the Marketing Department and by using other software applications. Develop and oversee the production of the activity guide working in lockstep with Marketing to meet timeline and accuracy requirements.
- Seek and build partnerships to leverage community reach. Assist with pursuing and administering grants and enhanced funding opportunities.
- Responsible for being up to date with current District policies and procedures and enforcement.
- Assist and fill in as the main point of contact for Rec Trac, the District’s recreation program system. This includes system updates, problem solving, integration of hardware and software solutions, training new and current staff, and developing and administering policies and procedures.
- Ensure and monitor compliance with all policies, safety procedures and District standards.
- Assess & manage safety requirements regarding the facility security cameras, alarm system, keys and Emergency Action Plan.
- Conduct business to meet the objectives of the District Strategic Plan.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; keep up to date with new trends and innovations in the recreation field.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works periodically on special projects as assigned by the Recreation General Manager outside the context of recreation, but for which the incumbent possesses the ability to perform adequately.
- Actively participates in state and national professional organizations, and affiliated organizations to promote recreation and Hyland Hills Parks and Recreation District.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, staff meetings, and conferences, as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Advanced knowledge of Rec Trac, Team Sideline, and Microsoft Office Software with strong computer skills and literacy with the ability to quickly learn other applications.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to implement and manage cost recovery strategies.
- Ability to effectively manage projects with use of project management best practices.
- Solid work ethic with strong strategic decision-making skills.
- Self-starter who takes initiative with minimal direction and supervision. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects.
- Excellent presentation and written communication skills.

- Experience in sports programming is highly desired. Complete understanding of best practices for programming recreation, rental and special events programs. Ability to build and maintain community partnerships.
- Will be expected to share the responsibility and work weekends, evenings and holidays along with availability during the holiday season. This position must have the ability and lifestyle to accommodate a flexible work schedule. To support balance of hours worked, there is a Districtwide requirement that all employees (exempt included) track hours worked through a check-in/out time-keeping system.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
- Occasional standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, running and walking for long periods of time.
- Frequently sitting and typing.
- Strength requires handling heavy weight (up to 75 lbs.), people, materials or equipment.
- Other requirements include talking, hearing, and seeing to perform the following necessary duties.
- Teach programs and supervise others, operating office equipment including but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax and telephones.
- Must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 word per minute with accuracy.
- Normal recreation facility conditions for most of the work may include occasional light and temperature variations.
- Exposure to noise, dust, sweat, heat and cold.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in recreation management, business administration, public administration, or related field.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training preferred.
- Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Must be CPR/AED certified.
