Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The Student Services Professional (I) serves as part of a three-person team headed by the Assistant Dean of the Morehead Honors College and Director of Student Engagement and Programming. This position will manage extracurricular activities that give all Honors students the opportunity to learn from UGA faculty across campus in informal settings, including Lunchbox Lectures, Field Trip Lunch & Learns, and Book Discussions by recruiting faculty participants, overseeing event scheduling and catering purchases, announcing events and arranging event registration, and handling day-of logistics. This position will administer internal award processes such as the Honors International Scholarship Program; Honors in Washington, Savannah, and New York; the Domestic Experiential Learning Scholarship; the Ash Service Award; and related opportunities by creating and distributing applications, troubleshooting user issues, managing relevant areas of the Honors website, overseeing application and awards processing, and liaising with the Office of Student Financial Aid when appropriate. It will assist other members of the Engagement and Programming team with external award efforts like the U.S. Fulbright Student Award and the Boren Awards as well as promoting professional development by assisting with resume, cover letter, and essay-writing workshops. Working closely with the Dean of the Honors College, who serves as faculty of record for the Introduction to Honors Seminar, this position will oversee the Honors Teaching Assistant Program and the Introduction to Honors seminar logistics.
The Introduction to Honors seminar is a required course for all incoming first-semester Honors students that introduces them to the Honors College, builds professionalization skills, and helps them construct a plan for utilizing its resources throughout their time at UGA through small seminars led by Honors Teaching Assistants (HTAs), themselves upper-class peers in the Honors College. This position oversees the program, coordinating the Introduction to Honors seminar curriculum and its rollout and administration to approximately 700 students in the fall and about 250 students in the spring. This individual will also help select, instruct, supervise, and assist the HTAs each year who disseminate the curriculum and act as peer mentors to the incoming Honors students.
To support all these activities, this position supervises an Engagement and Programming graduate assistant, who will perform an array of tasks including email communications, ordering, data entry, calendaring, and organization.

Co-Instruct HONS 4000H and support HONS 1000H curriculum development
- Instruct HTAs in the Honors Peer Advising seminar in tandem with the Honors dean and coordinate with HTAs throughout the week on the administration of course material and classroom management, including answering questions and addressing HTA concerns.
- Work with HTAs toward their professional development, build their pedagogical awareness and skills, and promote active learning. Create content and resources to assist HTAs in the administration of seminars.
- Plan HTA schedule and course assignments and keep eLearning Commons content for HONS 1000H/4000H current.
- Manage rollout of HONS 1000H curriculum through curriculum creation/modification, syllabus and course schedule creation, overseeing coursework and final project submission, and meeting with students encountering difficulties along the way.
- Monitor all course sections to ensure accreditation and standards compliance.
- Plan fall and spring First-Year Convocations, with duties including pre-planning during the previous semester, recruiting speakers and performers, assigning tasks to HTAs and Honors ambassadors, and managing the associated activities fair.
- Work with HTAs, Honors colleagues, and the Dean to continually improve the first-year experience, retaining students and ensuring they make progress toward graduation.
- Seek out and assess potential patterns of first-year student disengagement.
- Meet regularly with the Dean to assess programs and discuss issues.
- Liaise with Honors staff as needed for updates to Honors College policies and resources, and to address student needs.
- Oversee graduate assistant support tasks, including calendaring, routine email communications, datacollection for course monitoring, and rolling out end-of-semester evaluations to assess the student experience.
Manage Honors programming series and events
- Plan and execute the Assistant Dean's Honors programming agenda serving approximately 300 students each fall and spring, including at least 10 Lunchbox Lectures and 8-10 faculty-led Book Discussions each semester, with duties including researching and recruiting notable faculty speakers while ensuring a wide range of involvement from the university's schools and colleges, serving as the primary point of contact while coordinating event details, overseeing lunch and dinner ordering, registering students for events, passing on reminders and additional information to all parties as needed, and serving as the on-site host on event days.
- Research and connect with campus sites of interest to conduct 2-3 Field Trip Lunch & Learns wherein Honors students visit an array of campus facilities and learn about different areas of scholarly
work. - Arrange other seminars with College alumni or other noteworthy speakers as requested by the Assistant Dean or Dean. Keep relevant areas of the Honors website current as the team's WordPress administrator.
- Oversee a graduate assistant for some research tasks, calendaring, day-to-day faculty and studentcommunications, survey creation and distribution, placingcatering orders, and other time-consuming logistics.
Support internal and external scholarships
- Serve as the Engagement and Programming InfoReady administrator, creatingapplications and running yearly cycles under the direction of the Assistant Deanfor the Honors International Scholars Program, Honors in Washington, New York,and Savannah, the Domestic Experiential Learning Program, the Ash ServiceAward, and other offerings as designated.
- Field student troubleshooting issues and adjust application portal as needed.
- Support the Assistant Dean in preparing student applications for review and organizing reading and/or interview committees, including participating in reading and interviewing student candidates.
- Author individualized offer letters, notify students of acceptance, and facilitate awards processing. Ensure a record of student reports and post-trip photos to be used for communications and donor stewardship.
- Provide seasonal assistance during high-intensity external application cycles for the unit, offering administrative support for the U.S. Student Fulbright program and the Boren Awards.
- Oversee team's graduate student as they complete application memorialization, data processing, publicity, organization, application and reports processing, and other tasks.
Advance Honors student professionalization and career development
- Complement the Engagement and Programming Student Affairs Professional'sefforts to assist students with drafting, development, and revision of resume,cover letter, and other application materials.
- This collaboration will include proofreading and providing line-level and global edits to Honors Internships recipients seeking placements; co-hosting drafting parties, personal statement workshops, and other professionalization events for pre-med internships, HISP
, and other Honors populations; and assisting with career development material revisions and circulation to students.
