Description
The City of Overland Park has a full-time Arts and Events Supervisor position available in the Parks and Recreation Department.
SUMMARY:
The Arts & Events Supervisor executes, coordinates and supports community events as well as public art for the City of Overland Park Parks and Recreation Department. This role requires a creative, detail-oriented individual with strong communication and organizational skills to ensure successful and memorable experiences for residents and visitors. This position is a relationship builder and represents the City to numerous external stakeholders. This position executes and acts as the point of contact for small to mid-sized events and assists in the planning and coordination of large events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the Arts & Events Manager to cover and plan special events. Assist the manager in overseeing the City’s fine art collection by contributing to the planning, curation, maintenance, and inventory of both existing and new acquisitions.
- Coordinates and assists in developing event plans and logistics, including gathering vendor information and supporting budget tracking.
- Coordinate with internal departments such as Law, Planning, Public Works, City Manager's Office, Fire, Police, Emergency
- Management and external partners to ensure seamless event execution.
- Coordinates with the City Communications Department to manage event promotion and marketing efforts, including creating promotional materials and utilizing various communication channels.
- Oversee on-site event management, including setup, breakdown, troubleshooting, emergency management, and acting as the point of contact.
- Recruits and provides direction to volunteers during events as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, permits, and City ordinances.
- Drafts and routes for execution contracts for goods and services.
- Evaluate event success through post-event analysis and feedback collection.
- Maintain accurate records of event details, expenses, and attendance.
- The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors, volunteers, stakeholders and any other persons or organizations with which interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals. Nights and weekend work is expected. Availability to work the 4th of July is expected.
- The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation management, event management, marketing, public relations, hospitality, or related field is required.
- Possession of appropriate, valid driver's license.
- Must maintain an insurable driving record.
- Crowd Management Certification within 6 months of hire.
- CPR and first aid certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in event planning and coordination, preferably in a municipal or non-profit setting.

No City residency requirement.
Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.
Normal Work Hours: Variable schedule - full time (mgr to provide more details)
PAY RATE - GRADE E: $28.51 -31.50 Per Hour
