Background
Bluegrass Greensource was formed in 2001 to provide environmental education and resources that equip and empower Central Kentuckians to ensure clean, healthy, and enjoyable environments. We currently have a staff of 6 who are dedicated to environmental education and outreach about water quality, waste reduction and energy efficiency. We focus on facilitating preK-12, business and adult education in Central Kentucky.
Overview
Bluegrass Greensource is seeking a highly organized and motivated Community Energy Programs Coordinator to lead community outreach and educational programming that helps Central Kentuckians better understand energy issues, improve household energy efficiency, and connect with available resources. This position will coordinate community forums, facilitate energy efficiency workshops, develop educational materials, cultivate partnerships, and support statewide program development in collaboration with the Kentucky Office of Energy Policy and local stakeholders.
Position Description
Coordinate Community Energy Forums
- Research Kentucky's national, state, and local energy landscape in collaboration with the Kentucky Office of Energy Policy, community leaders, and regional stakeholders.
- Develop forum objectives and educational content addressing Kentucky's energy future, energy economic development, cleaner transportation, energy efficiency, and available federal incentives including 48C tax credits.
- Develop and maintain stakeholder lists representing local governments, nonprofits, utilities, businesses, community organizations, and residents.
- Coordinate all aspects of forum planning, logistics, scheduling, registration, and participant communications.
- Develop a community forum planning toolkit that can be used to replicate the program across the state.
Develop and Facilitate Energy Efficiency Workshops
- Coordinate, promote, recruit for, and facilitate ten community energy efficiency workshops serving low-income households throughout Central Kentucky.
- Develop educational presentations and workshop materials that help participants reduce household energy use and lower utility costs.
- Collaborate with community partners to recruit participants and identify households that would benefit from energy efficiency education.
- Coordinate workshop logistics including scheduling, registration, venues, participant communications, and materials.
- Work toward project goals of removing barriers that prevent low-income households from accessing the benefits of energy efficiency.
Reporting and Grant Administration
- Maintain project documentation and participant records.
- Prepare reports and evaluations for the Kentucky Office of Energy Policy.
- Assist in preparing grant deliverables and the final project report highlighting outcomes, success stories, and recommendations.
Qualifications and Characteristics
Knowledge and experience: Commitment to sustainability and environmental education; experience coordinating community programs, workshops, or public events; experience working with nonprofits, government agencies, or community organizations preferred; strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Personal characteristics: Highly self-motivated; collaborative; organized and attentive to detail; comfortable working independently and as part of a team; excellent problem-solving skills; adaptable; enthusiastic about community engagement and public education.
Technology and software: Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with Canva, social media platforms, event registration software, website content management systems, and virtual meeting platforms preferred.
Communications: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to facilitate meetings and workshops; experience developing educational materials and communicating with diverse audiences.
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel throughout Central Kentucky.
Ability to transport event materials and assist with meeting setup.
Ability to remain stationary or standing for extended periods during community events.
