Position Summary
Mission:USA is seeking a mission-driven Development & Communications leader to grow financial support and expand the reach of our ministry, including promoting the book More Church Than Church. This role blends donor engagement, book promotion, and digital marketing to help fuel life-change among people rebuilding after incarceration, addiction, and gang involvement. This is a Chicago area role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising & Donor Development (~40%)
Integrate new donors and contacts into donor management pipeline
Execute monthly donor communication (email, print, updates)
Research grant & foundation opportunities
Assist with grant writing and reporting
Manage email marketing (MailerLite, etc.)
Oversee website updates and blog content
Maintain consistent messaging across social media channels
2. Book Promotion & Revenue Growth (~40%)
Execute marketing for More Church Than Church
Coordinate launch campaigns (Amazon, email, social media)
Build partnerships with churches, ministries, and networks
Manage speaking/event/podcast opportunities tied to the book
Track sales and develop ongoing promotion strategy
3. Program and Event Support (~20%)
Participate in and support weekly program events
Build relationships with partner churches
Support special projects as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
Passion for Christian ministry and alignment with Mission:USA values (www.missionusa.com)
Strong writing and communication skills
Experience in fundraising, marketing, or nonprofit development
Comfortable with digital tools (email platforms, CRM, social media)
Highly relational, team oriented and self-motivated, with ability to work independently
High School Diploma: Some college or college degree preferred
Preferred:
Experience in faith-based or urban ministry
Book marketing or content promotion experience
Required:
Chicagoland location with reliable transportation to weekly program events
Candidates will be asked to submit 2 writing samples with a reference who can verify authorship
Candidates will be asked to demonstrate knowledge of social media contributions
Candidates will be asked to provide a reference who can speak to their ability to work independently and provide tangible results
Compensation
Salary: $50,000–$55,000
Bonus tied to book sales and speaking bookings: $2,000 - $5,000
Flexible / hybrid work possible
Paid time off
Medical benefits are not included with this role at this time
