OverviewJob Description:
The Director of Golf is responsible for overseeing and providing direction in many critical aspects of Foresight Corpus Christi Golf's golf operation at Lozano Golf Center, The Firefly 9-Hole Course, and Oso Beach Golf Course. The following is an outline of the duties that are required in this role.
Customer Service
- Lead by example always maintaining positive and productive relationships with Foresight Corpus Christi Golf's Golf Shop, Guest Services, and Volunteer Staffs to ensure all guests are constantly and consistently extended "best in class" customer service. We strive to always exceed customer expectations in both service and value.
Golf Outing and Tournament Operations
- Oversee and direct all golf outings and tournament operations at Lozano Golf Center, The Firefly 9-Hole Course, and Oso Beach Golf Course.
- Respond promptly to incoming leads and inquiries about golf outings and tournaments.
- Assist in the development and coordination of golf outing and tournament proposals, including negotiating weekday and weekend pricing, carefully considering time of year, day of the week, and time of the day.
- Help oversee and coordinate the booking process for all golf outings and tournaments, including obtaining a signed contract and outing deposit for guaranteeing every event that reserves an event.
- Ensure that any group, whether small or large, gets reserved on the tee sheet at the time of formal reservation. This includes properly setting up outings using tee time, modified shotgun, and full golf course shotgun starts.
- Upon booking, ensure all golf outings have been input into the tee sheet, the GSPR, and in a physical outing file.
- Review the outing schedule with the General Manager each week for upcoming business and ensure that the group outing coordinators for all imminent group outings and tournaments have been contacted, have provided a guaranteed guest count for golf and F&B, and all final details have been discussed (i.e., on-course contests, special considerations, etc.)
- Ensure that regular communication to current group outing coordinators takes place leading up to an event. Follow the Foresight Golf Playbook standards for communication to group outing coordinators.
- Ensure that all groups that require professional tournament setup have submitted a player list and then ensure that the Golf Genius software is utilized for producing cart placards, pairings list, alpha lists, and scorecards.
- Ensure proper communication with the Food & Beverage Manager for all events requiring catering, including providing real-time guest count updates for any upcoming business requiring catering.
- Communicate all starting times for group business each week to the Golf Course Superintendent; providing them with constant updates to changes in guest counts, starting times, and holes needed for all groups requiring a shotgun start.
Tee Sheet Management
- Coordinate with the General Manager and assist in the oversight of the tee sheets to ensure each day's schedule is set up to maximize tee times based on the time of year.
- Tee sheets should be set up at least six months in advance, scheduling events as they book, denoting holidays, and any special pricing.
Employment and Human Resources
- Play an active role in hiring, training, and supervising the Golf Shop, Guest Service, Starter, and Marshal team members.
- Follow the standards and procedures in the Foresight Golf Playbook and Employee Handbook for all human resource matters and considerations.
- Provide oversight and direct the efforts of the golf operations team.
- Coordinate with the General Manager on all hiring and ensure they are in receipt of any new hire paperwork in a timely manner for submitting to the home office.
- Coordinate with the General Manager on all disciplinary considerations, including counseling and if necessary terminating staff members.
- Work hard to develop staff members through coaching to advance effectiveness and talent within the team.
Downward and Upward Communication
- Ensure a professional and regular consistent line of communication with fellow team members. Communicate regarding golf operations on an ongoing basis. This includes daily communication with the General Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, and the Golf Course Superintendents so that they are aware of daily golf operations business and its schedule.
- Keep an ongoing line of communication with Foresight Corpus Christi Golf's General Manager pertaining to all matters.
Scheduling
- Ensure proper and adequate scheduling of Guest Services, Golf Shop, Starter, and Marshal staff, following budgeted/forecasted payroll budget on a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis. A copy of the operating budget will be provided to you for your reference.
- Schedules should be produced each week for the upcoming week and should be published no later than Thursday prior to the week scheduled.
Completing and Submitting the Daily Summary
- Coordinate with the General Manager to ensure that the daily summary report is completed every day, accurately recording the previous day's business by using a sales report from point-of-sale software. Doing so will keep you informed on how rounds and revenues are tracking throughout each month as a comparison to the prior year and to budget.
- On Mondays and Fridays, before 12pm, coordinate with the General Manager and submit an updated version of the daily summary electronically through e-mail to the home office team. In the body of the e-mail provide a brief description of how business was for the previous week or weekend and a summary/forecast of the next week or weekend's business (rounds booked and anticipated revenues).
Monthly Physical Inventory
- Coordinate with the General Manager to ensure the physical inventory process of the golf shop, including a physical count of all golf shop inventory, is performed on the last day of the month. Use the point-of-sale inventory wizard to complete the physical inventory process.
Golf Shop Merchandising
- Work closely with the General Manager and the Foresight Golf Director of Retail by monitoring golf shop neatness, proper inventory counts, ordering, receiving, and rotation of soft and hard goods.
- Coordinate with the General Manager to ensure that all golf shop inventory is received into the point of sale and that corresponding invoices for such merchandise is approved, coded, and submitted to the home office accounting team for paying through accounts receivable.
- Share customer comments and suggestions with the Director of Retail to facilitate the desired inventory of goods for sale.
Working Counter Shifts
- Positively interact with guests by working the counter to ensure their visit is a first-class experience from the time of arrival, throughout their golfing experience.
- Assist the facility by working counter shift on a weekly basis. Salaried personnel working at the counter provide many advantages to the facility; it makes our managers visible to the customer and helps to reduce wages during the shoulder and off seasons.
Teamwork and Management by Walking Around
- Work closely and cooperatively with the entire facility team.
- Assist the General Manager to employ the best management practice of "Management by Walking Around." This is a required Foresight practice that ensures key members of management, are keenly aware of the happenings at the property. Walking the property should take place daily and doing so guarantees that:
- You are seen regularly by our customers and are available to help or to answer questions when needed.
- You are available to non-management team members and can observe their efforts and provide immediate feedback and suggestions as to their performance.
- Displays and inventories are kept fresh, stocked, and are rearranged frequently.
- The facility is always kept tidy; repairs or improvements to the building(s), fixtures, etc., are observed and can be recommended.
Additional Typical Functions:
- Lead by example! Nothing is more powerful than the team witnessing the Director of Golf handling customers, situations, and the details of business in action!
- Adhere to and participate in the philosophy of "Continual Improvement." The Director of Golf should use their presence, ability to observe and maintain knowledge of the properties and golf industry to make recommendations as to how to continually get better for the sake of customer satisfaction and profitability of the businesses.
- Be an ambassador for the property and company.
- Ensure that the golf car fleet, clubhouse grounds, and main clubhouse facilities are clean and free of any unsightly trash or clutter.
- Maintain professional and pleasant telephone manners.
- Handle customer inquiries and/or complaints in accordance with Foresight Corpus Christi Golf's policies and procedures.
- Work with the General Manager to constantly monitor the golf course tee sheets to ensure maximum utilization of each day's business.
- Keep golfers adequately informed of the activities on the golf product and encourage their participation when necessary. Be aware of golf course maintenance programs and course conditions.
- Develop dialogue with customers concerning their playing habits at our facilities and other golf courses. Note and report on customers' likes and dislikes with our product.
- Participate monthly in Foresight Corpus Christi Golf's Operations Committee Meetings by providing a recap of the previous month's business.

Experience Required
Employment Standards:
- Minimum two to four years of experience in a service-oriented hospitality industry, such as: golf course management, hotel, and resort, restaurant, and retail or sports management
- PGA Member or Apprentice actively pursuing Membership is strongly preferred.
- Highly resourceful and able to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective negotiation skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent computer skills (Golf POS software, Microsoft Office Suite, Golf Genius)
Benefits
Health Insurance - Health insurance is available through Foresight Golf. There is a 90-day waiting period before you are eligible. If you elect to have health insurance coverage, the company will pay a majority of your insurance premium. Dental, dependents, and other supplemental policies are available at your expense. The rates and percentages of company paid premiums are subject to change as our overall insurance costs change. This insurance program is part of a section 125 plan and is deducted prior to income taxes. Literature is available regarding insurance upon request.
Retirement Planning - Foresight Golf provides a 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan to help employees accumulate financial resources for retirement. The plan allows employees to contribute up to $24,500 annually. Foresight will match 15% of your investment to the plan up to 15% of your annual salary. You have the option to direct the investments into professionally managed investment funds or pick your own investments available in the plan. To be eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan an employee must complete 12 months of service and be 21 years of age or older. Employees may join the plan on the first day of the quarter following completion of their first year of service.
Vacation - Foresight Golf believes in the value of rest and relaxation away from the workplace and as a result, provides its employees with paid vacation. Upon completion of your first year of employment, you are eligible for two weeks (80 hours) of vacation. After your fifth year of employment, you will be eligible for three weeks (120 hours) of paid vacation.
Complimentary Golf and Other Discounts - Foresight Golf Team members and their immediate family members receive complimentary golf at any Foresight Golf facility. To receive complimentary golf, family members must play with the Foresight Golf Team member.
Additionally, employee discounts will be extended to you on golf shop merchandise in the amount of cost-plus ten percent and approximately fifty percent off food & beverage purchases while visiting a Foresight Golf property.

Communication - A cell phone allowance, computer, e-mail address, and business cards will be provided for your use.
PGA Dues - Foresight Corpus Christi Golf agrees to pay for your local section and national PGA dues. Any additional or supplemental services provided by the PGA, such as life insurance, retirement savings, etc. are not covered.
Uniforms Allowance - Uniforms will be provided to you in the form of seven golf shirts per year. These will be selected from pro shop inventory. All other golf shop merchandise will be sold to you at cost plus ten percent to cover shipping and handling.
